Course details

The Sprint Aquathlon and RNLI Series Final will both be a 750metre swim (1 lap) and a 5km run (1 lap).
The Super Aquathlon will be two laps of each giving a 1.5km swim and 10km run.

The RNLI Series Final will start at: 12:00pm.
The Sprint Aquathlon will start at: 12:10pm.
The Super Aquathlon will start at 12:20pm.

Swim

The swim will be on a triangular 750metre swim course which will start on the beach just adjacent to the public toilets/Life Guard hut.

As indicated by the starting times above, there will be 3 waves.

Athletes doing the sprint event will swim the 750mtre lap once swimming out to a marker buoy and then swimming parallel to the beach to a second buoy where they turn towards the beach to finish beside the point where the swim started.

At this point, athletes doing the longer event will run round a cone on the beach and enter the water again for their second lap.

Transition

After registering, athletes should proceed to transition and deposit their running shoes and any other accessories into the numbered plastic transition bins.

On completing the swim athletes will run up to the path, turn left and run down to the entrance into the transition area which is on the green area to the south of the public toilets/lifeguard hut (see map below).

In transition athletes will remove their wet suits and put on running shoes before heading to the transition exit to begin the run.

Note: It is important that athletes deposit their wetsuits in the plastic bins so that they do not obstruct or hinder other athletes.

Run

The entrance to transition is at the end nearest to you once you have left the beach and are on the
path.

On entering transition competitors should change into their run gear at their numbered transition
box. Please respect other competitors by storing your wetsuit and swim hats/goggles in your
transition box.

You exit transition at the opposite end that you entered heading towards Holmpatrick.

On exiting transition, follow the tarmac path straight down to the bottom of the path.

At the end of the path, exit onto the Rush road, turn left and staying on the footpath continue to turnaround 1 where you will turn around a marker.

Participant numbers will be noted at each turn to ensure that each competitor completes the course. Competitors must run on the left hand side of the path to avoid obstructing other runners.

Continue by running back toward and past transition (again keeping to the left) to the end of the
tarmac path to turnaround 2. Turnaround 2 is at the bandstand beside the R.N.L.I. Station around
the headland.

Competitors doing the Sprint Aquathlon and Sprint Series Final will do one lap and will run from turnaround 2 to the finish which is near the Lifeguard station.

Those doing the Super Aquathlon will run this course twice, so on returning down the path, run passed transition keeping it on your right hand side staying on the tarmac path.
